Deciding on a cheap fridge freezer for the home is a big decision.  While you want to spend the bar minimum amount of money, at the same time you need to take care you do not end up purchasing a piece of junk appliance.   Below I summarize some of the important things to consider when shopping for cheap fridge freezers.

Cheap refrigerators are often built my manufacturers at the lowest possible cost.  Because of this niceties such as efficient compressors, strong hinges and plentiful insulation often fall by the way side.

All these things are required in a refrigerator freezer if it is to be very energy efficient.  This means that many of the cheapest fridge freezers can energy hogs. 

Always review the energy use claims on a particular refrigerator before buying to make that the monthly operating costs for a cheap appliance don’t make it more economical to purchase a pricier – but more efficient – fridge freezer.

Measure Carefully For Cheap Fridge Freezers

There is nothing worse than bringing home a new appliance and finding it will not fit in your kitchen – or will not even make it through your front door.

Before purchasing any cheap fridge or cheap freezer carefully measure the space where it will be installed.  Height, depth and width of the installation area should all be carefully measured; and then compared against the budget fridge freezers dimensions.

Take care to allow for wiggle room on either side and behind your refrigerator, and ensure there is sufficient room for the door – or doors – to fully open.

Capacity For Cheap Fridge Freezers

Always plan ahead and determine the appropriate side of your fridge freezer.  Buying too small may result in you having to purchase another appliance in the near future, a very expensive proposition.

Likewise, buying too large also has downsides.  If a refrigerator or freezer is largely empty you can use a considerable amount of expensive electricity keeping the air inside cold.  With no thermal mass this can be costly.

Types Of Cheap Fridge Freezers

The cheapest fridge freezers are almost inevitably white, and are usually – if you purchase a full-sized unit – the top mount freezer type. If you wish a different color or type of fridge you will probably have to pay extra cash.

Also worth considering is whether there are any features you absolutely must have. Cheap refrigerator freezers may not come with auto-defrost or an ice-maker; if you need these features plan accordingly.
